What to Expect

Initial Functional Medicine Medical Visits

What to expect at your visit with Carolina Total Wellness

New Patient appointments are scheduled in-office. Please allow approximately 2 hours for your initial visit, which will include an in-depth consultation with one of our functional medicine physicians and one of our functional medicine health coaches. Nutritional therapy and diagnostic laboratory testing will be integral components of your treatment plan. Test results are used to design your personal health care program, as well as uncover the root causes of your medical condition. We will review with you the procedures for obtaining recommended testing. Nutritional supplements may be recommended and we will recommend the highest quality products.

Follow-up Functional Medicine Medical Visits

Follow-up appointments may be scheduled as virtual or in-office. You will receive detailed laboratory test results and be guided through their interpretations at your first follow-up physician visit. This physician visit will last between 30 and 40 minutes and will be followed by a 20 to 30-minute follow-up visit with your health coach. The frequency of subsequent follow-up visits will depend entirely on your unique health conditions and treatment plan. Some patients will require physician follow up every few months, whereas others may need to be seen much less frequently. Follow-up visits with your health coach will depend on individual patient needs and preferences.

Initial Allergy Drops Medical Visits

Initial Allergy Clinic appointments are scheduled in-office. Please allow 30 minutes for your initial allergy visit, which will include a consultation by one of our physicians.  This visit will also include discussion or review of results of allergy testing for inhalant allergens.  Testing for possible food allergies through blood testing will be discussed if needed.  We will discuss and prescribe a personalized allergy drop regimen based on your test results and review with you the steps for self administering allergy drops at home.

Follow-up Allergy Drops Medical Visits

Follow-up Allergy Clinic appointments may be scheduled as virtual or in-office. Please allow 15 minutes for each follow up allergy visit.  Follow up visits will occur every 3 months for the first year to assess progress with immunotherapy and to rewrite prescriptions for your allergy drops.  After the first year, most patients only need to be seen every 6 or 12 months. Most patients no longer require visits or allergy drops after 3 to 5 years.
